About · Skapa Builders

To create, make, manufacture.

skapa [ˈskɛapa] — From Old Norse skapa, “to create”. Corey Hinchey founded Skapa Builders in 2016.

Corey Hinchey at the saw

With a natural inclination toward the arts, Corey has always been creative. At eight he walked downtown Saint John, New Brunswick, sketching the oldest churches he could find.

After moving to Halifax at 18 he worked odd jobs, including piece-work installation at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and a stint with a student painting company. Nothing called to him quite like working with wood.

The mentors he names

  • — David McQueen Construction
  • — Tekton Inc. and architect Patrick Jardine
  • — On the Level Construction — John Boris and Greg Sutherland
  • — Jeff Amos

“These incredibly talented craftsmen guided me safely toward the independence I was striving for, in order to serve the community as a skilled carpenter.”
